Research overview

Miles is confirmed to begin an MASc in Fall 2026 working on analog-to-digital-converter sampling kickback and mitigation. The project is co-supervised by Leonard MacEachern and Masum Hossain in Electronics.

Sampling kickback arises when switching activity in a sampling network disturbs the source it is attempting to measure. The effect couples device behaviour, architecture, timing, source impedance, front-end design, and layout into one physical problem.

Research questions

The project can develop along several connected lines:

  • Physical and circuit-level models of kickback
  • Dependence on sampling architecture and timing
  • Source and driver interaction
  • Circuit techniques that isolate or reduce the disturbance
  • Calibration or signal-processing strategies that compensate residual error
  • Layout-aware simulation and measurement

Current direction

The thesis wording, architecture, process, and measurement platform will be established as Miles begins the program. The permanent page is ready to accumulate those milestones without losing the original research context.
