Upper-Year Elective Options

The stream pathway uses two approved upper-year stream-elective baskets, with additional depth options available outside the required stream pathway subject to prerequisites, term offering, and normal advising.

Basket A: Photonics Devices, Materials, and Optical Systems

Choose one, 0.5 credit.

  • ELEC 4700 The Physics and Modeling of Advanced Devices and Technologies
  • ELEC 4702 Fiber Optic Communications
  • ELEC 4704 Nanoscale Technology and Devices
  • ELEC 4705 Electronic Materials, Devices and Transmission Media
  • ELEC 4906 Special Topics, only where explicitly approved by the Associate Chair (Undergraduate) as aligned with photonics, optical devices, quantum photonics, or related optical systems

Basket B: Optoelectronic Circuits, Interfaces, and Integration

Choose one, 0.5 credit.

  • ELEC 4706 High-Speed Electronics: Circuits and Systems
  • ELEC 4707 Analog Integrated Electronics
  • ELEC 4609 Integrated Circuit Design and Fabrication
  • ELEC 4906 Special Topics, only where explicitly approved by the Associate Chair (Undergraduate) as aligned with optical transceivers, TIAs, laser drivers, mixed-signal photonics interfaces, or related implementation topics

Additional Depth Options

These examples are outside the required Basket A/B stream pathway and remain subject to normal advising, prerequisites, and offering schedules.

Planning Notes

  • Not every course is offered every year
  • ELEC 4906 requires explicit topic approval for use in Basket A or Basket B
